Happy Last Day of School!
As we close another school year, I want to thank everyone who makes District 31 such a special community.
To our students, thank you for your hard work, perseverance, curiosity, and kindness throughout the year. We are proud of all you have accomplished, and we extend special congratulations to our eighth-grade graduates as they begin their next chapter.
To our families, volunteers, Education Foundation, and PTO, thank you for your partnership and support. Your involvement enriches our schools and helps create meaningful opportunities for students.
To our incredible teachers and staff, thank you for your dedication, expertise, and care. Your commitment to our students is at the heart of everything we do.
As summer begins, I hope everyone takes time to relax, recharge, and enjoy time with family and friends. Thank you for a wonderful year. I am grateful for the opportunity to serve this community and look forward to welcoming everyone back in the fall.

Congratulations 8th Grade Graduates
Special congratulations to the Field Middle School Class of 2026! Our 8th Graders enjoyed the last few weeks of school with a parade at Winkelman, a graduation breakfast, and a beautiful graduation ceremony. 2026 graduation photos will be posted on our District Facebook page in the coming weeks. We are very proud of our Tigers and wish them the best of luck in high school next year! Thank you to all of the parents who planned the fabulous party and luncheon, and to the staff for making their 8th-grade year so memorable.

Congratulations Winkelman 5th Graders
Congratulations to Winkelman's class of 2026! Students enjoyed the annual Farewell to Fifth celebration. The afternoon included a field trip and a parade through the school. Thank you to the fifth-grade teachers and staff, as well as the PTO, for their support of the event. Spring Benchmarking Reports and Placement Letters
The spring benchmarking data collection period is now complete. Spring NWEA reports will be shared electronically with 1st- to 8th-grade families via Skyward on Monday, June 8 (last day of school). All students entering 5th grade and 6th grade next year also received placement letters on Monday, June 8, to confirm math and English Language Arts (ELA) placement decisions for the 2026 - 2027 school year. Extended School Year
Extended School Year for students with IEPs starts June 9. View this letter for more information.
ESL Support Summer School Program
ESL Summer School will run from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. from June 9 through July 3, with no sessions held on June 19 in observance of Juneteenth. The program will serve invited multilingual students in grades K–5 whose families responded to the invitation, and will focus on English language development through targeted language and literacy support.

2026-2027 Registration
Registration for the 2026-2027 school year is open for all students in grades PreK-8! Please plan to register early, as this helps with school planning. Register today at www.district31.net/registration.

Along with registering, please plan ahead to ensure that you have all medical forms ready for the 2026-2027 school year. The required forms are listed below.
Summary of Medical Form Requirements
- Pre-K: Physical
- Kindergarten: Physical, Dental, and Eye
- 1st grade: No forms required
- 2nd grade: Dental
- 3rd, 4th, & 5th grade: No forms required
- 6th grade: Physical (exam also covers interscholastic sports physical) and Dental
- 7th & 8th grade: No forms required
Physical Exam and Immunization Record
A physical exam, with an updated immunization record on the “State of Illinois Certificate of Child Health Examination” form, must be completed and signed by a licensed healthcare provider and parent/guardian. Proof of the exam must be submitted upon entering Pre-K, Kindergarten, and 6th grade and/or when transferring from out of state.

Board Meeting Highlights:

- Public Comment: Members of the public shared their frustrations and concerns about the standards-based grading initiative.
- Recognitions -District 31 is proud to recognize our two District 3q retirees, Julie Stone and Kathy Sullivant. We thank them for their years of service.
- Nicole Schramm, Director of Finance and Operations, presented on the amended 2025-2026 budget during a public hearing.
- Director of Finance and Operations, Nicole Schramm, reviewed the Monthly Financial Reports for April.
- The Board of Education reviewed the Superintendent Report.
- The Board of Education previewed the policies recommended for approval at its June meeting.

- Approve Board of Education expenses for participation in the Joint Annual Conference in November 2026
- Approved the personnel report related to the restructuring of the business office
The Board of Education meets monthly, typically on the last Thursday of each month, at 7:00 p.m. in the Field Middle School Learning Center. We welcome any member of our community to attend in person or virtually via our live stream. Agendas, minutes, and the link to the live stream are available here. The District 31 Board of Education is composed of seven elected representatives from the District 31 attendance area. Each is elected for a four-year term.
