Grade Level Newsletters for November

Parent High School Transition meeting at Field. Eighth grade year is an exciting time and before we know it, your child will be getting their diploma and embarking on a whole new adventure! As you prepare for your child's transition to high school, we invite parents and guardians to an informational presentation at Field Middle School on Thursday, November 14 from 6:00-6:30 p.m. in the auditorium. Parents and guardians will learn the high school placement process as well as 8th Grade Graduation preparation information. We hope to see you on Thursday, November 14! 

PTO Trivia Night
The District 31 PTO is hosting a Trivia Showdown at Field after school on November 15. Friend groups will have the opportunity to pit their trivia skills against other groups to compete for fabulous prizes. Pizza will be served and transportation home will be available if needed. CATCH Presents The Anxious Generation Part Two Hands-On Workshop
CATCH was thrilled to welcome over 300 people to their conversation about The Anxious Generation by Jonathon Haidt.  The community gathered to openly discuss the importance of free-range childhoods and the dangers of overparenting. We talked about the effects of cell phone and social media use on our children and began to think about what we can DO to reverse the mental health crisis. It was an amazing, empowering evening! 

PART TWO is coming up on November 18!  CATCH invites everyone to a collaborative hands-on workshop where we will create a practical how-to guide that will empower us all to combat our kids' anxiety.

What:   Discussion to Action. Creating our How-To Guide To Free The Anxious Generation.
When:  Monday, November 18 at 7:00 p.m.
Where: Northbrook United Methodist Church, 1109 Western Ave.

Family Night at Sunset Foods: Grocery Shopping For the Caring Corner
Join Hunger Resource Network for a Thanksgiving Family Night of grocery shopping on Sunday, November 10 from 4 p.m. - 7 p.m. at Sunset Foods (1127 Church Street) to support the District 31 Caring Corner and other food insecure families in the Northbrook area. Hunger Resource Network will provide a simple list of non-perishable items for families to purchase throughout the store and will double-bag the groceries for distribution to those in need. Each bag costs approximately $35 and it will take less than half an hour to buy the items. 

Family Night Grocery List

  • (2) 14.5 oz canned fruit
  • (2) 14.5 oz canned vegetable
  • (1) 6 oz box/bag of stuffing mix
  • (1) box Bisquick Biscuit Mix
  • (2) 12 oz jars of gravy
  • (2) 14.5 oz canned cranberry sauce
  • (1) box mashed potato mix
  • (2) family size boxes of macaroni and cheese
  • (1) large container of hot chocolate
  • (1) box of pie crust mix

Caring Corner: Groceries, Personal Care Products, and Thanksgiving Holiday Bags
The District 31 Caring Corner is open every school day from 7 a.m. - 4 p.m.  in the District 31 Admin Office outer lobby, 3131 Techy (adjacent to Field Middle School). Groceries, staples, personal care products, and other items are available for the taking to any family who might need the items.

Thanksgiving Holiday Bags provided by the Northfield Township Food Pantry will be available later in November and include a flier for a free turkey.

Wanderlust from Classroom to Culture: Discovering Deutsch

Discover Germany and Switzerland Through the Eyes of Glenbrook Academy Students!

Current 8th Graders: Join us for an exciting evening of cultural exploration and learning as students from the Glenbrook Academy of International Studies present insights from their four-year study of the German language and culture. This event is a unique opportunity for eighth-grade students considering the Academy program, and anyone interested in global learning to hear firsthand about the students' experiences abroad. Topics include: studying German has opened doors to a deeper understanding of European history, language, and traditions.

Date: Monday, November 18th
Time: Doors open 6:30 p.m., Presentations start at 7 p.m.
Location: Lakeview Room at the Glenview Park District
